Alarc'h

Alarc'h, “swan” in Breton, is a duo composed by the harpist and singer Marta Celli (Folinfulina) and by the singer and bodhranist Simona Gatto (Bonny Swan). They want to restore the magic of the Celtic world through a wide musical repertoire proposing tunes based on Irish, Breton, Scottish, Galician or Gaelic traditions. Furthermore, they compose music following their dreams and passions, which they can convey also to the listeners

Ampouailh

Five young “firebrands” coming from Kreizh Breizh, a territory in the middle of Brittany, who have conquered Fest Noz main scenes just in 6 years of activity. Athy

“The wings of my soul” this is how Athy defines its harp and its deep link with it. Bagad de Vannes Melinerion

Founded in 1954, Bagad de Vannes Melinerion has been staying in the first category of Breton Bagadou since 1969. On musical behalf, this band, composed by percussions, drums, bagpipes and bombardes, always wants to improve so much that lately its style has been enriched by an exceptional group of young people; thus, now they can offer public tunes which combine tradition and modernity as never before.

Bagad Marionig Bro Ar Faoued

Bagad Marionig Bro Ar Faoued, founded in 1980 thanks to Lucien Kerjean and Manu Le Toullec’s idea, takes its name from heroin Marion du Faouët who, in XVIII century, was well-known for “robbing from the rich and giving to the poor”. It is this strength and determination which has marked this Bagad history and which it is easily to be found also in its musical repertoire, which proposes several tunes played and singed, taken from Breton tradition.

Clanadonia

This band of drummers has formed during several movie production registration breaks, in which members of the band had taken part. Clanadonia, under Tu-Bardh Wilson’s charismatic leadership, can produce nowadays with bagpipes and drums rhythms which have in themselves values and principles typical of the ancient Scottish clan time, when music accompanied warriors on the battle field.

Danserien Bro Klegerec

This varied group of dance has animated several festivals in France and abroad, by proposing in a original and passionate way dances coming from Brittany different territories and music of Gallo-Breton tradition. They are around thirty dancers, who take with them a rich and deep culture and whose future is guaranteed by a blooming dance school and by different musical workshops, organised in order to carry on their traditions.

Dunmor

DunMor, big fortress, is an ensemble born in 2009 spring. Dario Piccarreta’s guitar and violin, together with Massimo Cerra’s piano, flute and bodhran and the light touch of Milo Molteni’s fiddle. They offer a show to enjoy with eyes, ears and above all hearts: a kermes of tunes, taking inspiration from simple sounds of popular music with some influences from blues style and some improvisations, which makes public to express his emotions.

Gens d'Ys

This non-professional dance group whose main value is friendship has been making people dance for 17 years in different Italian and European towns, with dances inspired to Breton, Scottish and particularly Irish tradition. La Cerchia

“Dances of Occitan Valleys”, this is the title for the show of the historical group La Cerchia et it represents a path through traditional music and dances from Occitan Valleys. Courento, gigo, balet, boureo, espouzin, tolo, cario…there are really many dances continuing to be danced in all these valleys which have maintained their artistic tradition and which keep it alive also nowadays.

Maura Susanna

 

Maura Susanna is considered the most representative voice of the folk soul of Aosta Valley. In her repertoire, preferring folk genre, we can found tunes taken from traditions of different countries, sung in French, Catalan, Creole and Spanish. She has performed in Italy and abroad. She writes in Italian and Franco-Provencal, the roman language present in the area of Savoy, Roman Switzerland and some Italian valley, such as Aosta Valley. His artistic research, linked to rediscover philological and cultural traditions of this region, goes beyond music to reach social engagement.

Stella Bertarione

Stella Bertarione is a fast-child of Aosta Valley: born in Milan, even when she was a little girl she could not resist to the fascination of the mountains of Aosta Valley. It is her love for ancient taste and tradition which characterize not just her personal life but also her humanistic studies, addressed particularly to archaeology. Today her research becomes reality thanks to the cooperation with the Office for Monuments and Fine Arts Department of Education and Culture Councillor's Department of the Autonomous Region of Aosta Valley. At Celtica 2010, she is going to share with us a part of her enormous knowledge, as she did greatly last year.

 

Vincenzo Zitello

Composer, harpist, experimenter and concert artist: these are the aspect of Vincenzo Zitello’s eclectic creativity and artistic personality. He was the first who spread and played the Celtic harp in Italy. By now he is considered a “friend” of Celtica, present since its first edition; he can always make vibrate listeners’ hearts together with his harp strings.

8. CELTICA HARP - Teacher: MARIO LIPPARINI (Emilia Romagna)

The aim of this workshop is to create one or more ensemble including different levels and to play at least three traditional tunes.

  • Approach to arrangement, effect and improvisation items – short outlook on technique and execution
  • Way: according to the legend of the three types of music which every harpist should be able to play (music to cry, to laugh and to sleep), three tunes among Slow Air, Lullaby, Hornpipe, Jig and Reel will be prepared; each group will be divided in sections and it will create a tune going through mnemonic approach, underlying particularly the special tune-colour and effect features owned by this instrument; furthermore, moments of guided improvisation will be encouraged; presentation of different ways of choosing and preparing a repertoire to play as solo or as an ensemble.

PIETRO MALAGUTI
Suona la Great Highland Bagpipes dal 1975.
Lavora ed opera a Bologna come Advisor indipendente nel settore ICT e Marketing con propro studio. Ha partecipato ai corsi di piping presso la London Scottish Piping Society di Londra con maestro il Pipe/Major Angus MacDonald (MBE).
Partecipa attivamente alle attività culturali e presta la propria opera di insegnante ai nuovi pipers in Italia tenendo scuola nei weekend presso il suo studio. Gestisce il sito web www.celticstore.it per la vendita e la promozione della cornamusa scozzese. Suona in moltissime occasioni pubbliche e private, manifestazioni, matrimoni e organizza eventi in cui sono coinvolte le cornamuse scozzesi.

DARIO PICCARRETA
Suona la chitarra da 23 anni, inizialmente seguendo studi classici per sette anni presso il conservatorio di Como, in seguito proseguo gli studi da autodidatta, approfondendo la conoscenza dello strumento in svariati generi musicali: rock, blues, folk, collaborando con diverse formazioni comasche e svizzere con cui condivide numerose esperienze live (concerti, concorsi, serate) in Lombardia e Ticino.
Approda alla musica tradizionale nel 2002, anno in cui registra il disco Keltic nella formazione Fir Soar e Celtic Harp Orchestra con cui collabora in svariate esperienze live in Nord italia, Svizzera, Francia.
Nel 2004 approfondisce la conoscenza della musica tradizionale Irlandese durante un lungo soggiorno nella città di Galway; occasione in cui, suonando in session quotidiane, ha la possibilita' di confrontarsi con molti musicisti irlandesi e di apprendere le basi della musica tradizionale del luogo.
Negli anni seguenti approfondisce gli stili propri di questa musica sia nell'accompagnamento sia nel fingerstyle solistico. Compositore acustico e cantautorale, in inglese ed italiano, sfrutta le sonorita' della dadgad che vengono mescolate ad arrangiamenti e stili caratteristici del rock melodico e della musica moderna, ottenendo un sound dalle caratteristiche molto personali.

FIORENZO MENGOZZI
Esperieze Musicali: A 13 anni comincia a studiare batteria e ritmica al liceo musicale "Ezio Pinza" di Ravenna.
Dopo anni di militanza nella scena underground ravennate, nel 1995 sviluppa ed
approfondisce la sua predilezione per gli stilemi popolari concentrandosi su percussioni
etniche e tradizionali, in particolare il bodhràn e darbuka. Negli anni segue vari stages
specializzati ed è attivo in varie realtà quali "Kilfenora" (musica tradizionale irlandese
d'ascolto e da ballo), "Petrangula" (musica tradizionale emiliano-romagnola), "Ferro Battuto"
(musica cantautoriale tra il grecanico ed il jazz), "The Craig" (musica irlandese sperimentale).
Nel 2001 partecipa come attore/musicista nello spettacolo teatrale "Re Lear" di W.
Shakespeare, regia di Loretta Giovanetti. Pertecipa spesso come figurante e musicista in
numerosi eventi e festival ('800festival, Azzardandoilfolk, Imolainmusica, Trigallia). Nel 2005
entra a far parte dei "Marcabru" portando il sound del gruppo definitivamente verso la
sperimentazione di sintesi tra tradizione e modernità. Attualmente, oltre a continuare
l'esperienza con i "Marcabru", torna a suonare per il pubblico l'amata musica tradizionale
irlandese con il gruppo "Wishlist", un esperimento di band aperta con componenti
intercambiabili e repertorio definito di volta in volta. La discografia riporta numerose collaborazioni
ed in particolare la militanza nel progetto
"Marcabru".
Esperieze Didattiche: Dal 2002 al 2006 è impegnato presso il Museo di S. P. in Campiano (RA) — sezione
etnografica — nello svolgimento di laboratori didattici di etnomusicologia emilianoromagnola.
Dal 2003 fa parte della prestigiosa Scuola di Musica Popolare di Forlimpopoli
come insegnante di bodhràn. Nel 2008 diventa vicepresidente dell'Ass. Cult. Irlandese
Shamrock con la quale, tramite eventi ed incontri didattici, promuove l'eccellenza della
cultura irlandese a 360°.

MICHELE BERSELLI
Ha seguito diversi corsi in Irlanda e Italia (al San Benedetto in Alpe Folk Fest) con insegnanti quali Breandan O'Hare, Davy Maguire, John Wynne, Harry Bradley e ha in programma di seguirne molti altri e di spostarmi sempre più spesso verso l'Irlanda per imparare al meglio la loro musica.
Ha partecipato a session locali (in Irlanda) e ad alcuni festival estivi quali Joe Mooney summer school (a drumshambo), Scoil Acla (ad Achill Island) e altri.

ANDREA MONTEVECCHI
si avvicina alla musica all'età di 10 anni studiando chitarra in una scuola di musica di Imola.
A 16 anni l'attrazione per altre tipologie di suoni lo vede buttare la chitarra per spingersi a strumenti meno usuali come la gaita (cornamusa spagnola), ilflauto traverso e il tamburello a cornice. Inizia così gli studi di traditional Irish music alla "Scuola di Musica Popolare" di Forlimpopoli con il maestro Marco Tadolini e l'amico Matteo Rimini.
A 19 anni si iscrive al Conservatorio "Pergolesi" di Ancona affrontando glistudi classici con il maestro Fulvio Fiorio con cui termina i 5 anni svolgendol'esame di compimento inferiore. Nel frattempo segue stage di flauto traverso irlandese con i maestri ChristineDowling, Breandan O'Hare, Davy Maguire e Maria Rafferty.
Ha collaborato con Gianluca Rebuzzi con il quale ha vinto nel 2004 il Festivaldi Biella e partecipato ad altri importanti festival come Musicultura diRecanati; altra grossa collaborazione l'ha avuta con il Teatro Instabile Urgadi Ferrara per il quale ha svolto funzioni di consulente musicale per laselezione e l'arrangiamento di brani per lo spettacolo "Luftmenschen-CafèConcerto". Tutt'ora suona con i Lynn e con i Dimondi svolgendo numerosi concerti in tuttala Penisola e all'estero: Spagna, Francia, Croazia e Slovenia.

LUCIA PICOZZI
Il percorso artistico di questa entusiasmante musicista inizia sulla tastiera di un piano: la grande abilita tecnica e l'assidua applicazione, vengono infatti premiate dal diploma di pianoforte al Conservatorio di Mantova.
Compiendo un brevissimo passo decisamente in discesa, coltiva la sua personale smisurata passione per la musica tradizionale irlandese, un genere che finalmente la completa come musicista, dando libero sfogo ad abilità, tecnica, improvvisazione e personale divertimento.
È considerata dalla band Inis Fail un vero rullo compressore e di conseguenza soprannominata "il trattore" per la precisione e per il rigore stilistico maturato nei soggiorni irlandesi.

MILO MOLTENI
Nato a Como nel 1975 a 5 anni si avvicina allo studio del violino presso l'Accademia Musicale "M.E.Bossi" di Como, prima sotto la guida di M° Maggi Vigoni e poi del M° Lorenzo Gorli sino al diploma che consegue al Conservatorio "Donizetti" di Bergamo nel settembre 1999.
Ha compiuto differenti esperienze che ne hanno caratterizzato il suo stile.
Nel 1997 si avvicina alla musica tradizionale quebecoise con il gruppo Musicanta e dal 1999 effettua frequenti viaggi in Irlanda per partecipare a workshops inerenti la tecnica del violino (fiddle) nella musica tradizionale irlandese nel Donegal, Galway e Cork, partecipando anche a numerose jam sessions.
Ha collaborato attivamente con gli Inis Fail e la Inis Fail Ceili Band.
Al suo attivo ha numerosi CD tra i quali "Tacoum i Taq" con Musicanta, "Riverbero" di Mell Morcone, "One More" e "The Blue Bottle" con Inisfail, "Mateada" con Azuaga Trio. 2000 avvicinamento alla tradizione argentina e alla musica di A.Piazzolla con Azuaga Trio

MARIO LIPPARINI 

Inizia lo studio della chitarra acustica nel 1984, passando molto presto alla classica. Dopo un approccio iniziale ai maestri spagnoli, si accosta alla musica barocca che ben presto si trasforma in passione.
Nel 1990 intraprende la trascrizione per chitarra di musiche antiche, e la propensione per la musica irlandese lo induce a trascrivere per chitarra molta musica per arpa celtica. Dalle trascrizioni dall'arpa allo studio della stessa, il passo è breve.
Dopo una breve formazione presso la Mª Cristina Giorgi di Bologna, prosegue con la tecnica su corde di budello fino al 1998, quando dall'incontro con il Prof. Michele Sangineto di Milano nasce la passione per la tecnica su corde di bronzo. Tale tecnica modifica totalmente il suo repertorio fino all'attuale, sempre ampliato dall'attività di trascrizione della musica medievale, rinascimentale e popolare di tradizione celtica.
Nel 2002 segue uno stage di perfezionamento al SERMIG di Torino con la Mª Gráinne Hambly (Irlanda) e il M° Dominig Bouchaud (Bretagna), con particolare approfondimento delle tecniche di arrangiamento della musica tradizionale dei paesi dell'area celtica. Nel 2005 segue un master di arpa celtica con il M° Myrdhin (Bretagna).
Nel 2003 e 2004 ha partecipato ai tributi a Derek Bell, arpista scomparso dei Chieftains, al teatro maestoso di Monza. Ne è stato tratto un cd, la cui traccia "The Parting Glass" è suonata all'arpa celtica da Mario Lipparini e sua moglie Silvia Raule.
Del 2001 e del 2005 sono i cd "Ag Cur na Samhradh" e Gaoth an Fhomhair", prodotti con il gruppo Samhradh. Quest'ultimo album è stato recensito entusiasticamente dalla rivista Keltika nel n.84.
Dal 2006 detiene un brevetto e un marchio internazionali per un sistema di illuminazione per arpe.
Ha partecipato ad alcune manifestazioni, tra cui Trigallia '98 (Poteen), Ferrara Buskers Festival (2001), Celtica 2002 (Arpe Diem), Carnix Festival di Udine (2004), Pop Harp Festival (2006).
È fondatore dei gruppi Samhradh e "The Fiddler's Elbow", attivi nei teatri, nei festival a tema, nelle rievocazioni storiche, nelle feste danzanti, e nella valorizzazioni dei centri storici.
È nel Celticworld Music Staff come collaboratore articolista, e per la recensione delle nuove uscite di cd d'arpa celtica.
È insegnante di arpa celtica presso la scuola di musica popolare di Forlimpopoli (FC), e coordina il gruppo di interesse sull'arpa celtica al Folkfest di San Benedetto in Alpe (FC).
